What this calculator is doing

Torque (also known as moment or turning force) is the rotational equivalent of linear force. It is calculated using the following formula:

\[ \tau = F \cdot r \cdot \sin(\theta) \]

Where:
\( \tau \) = Torque (Newton-meters, Nm)
\( F \) = Applied Force (Newtons, N)
\( r \) = Lever arm length (meters, m)
\( \theta \) = Angle between the force and lever arm (degrees)

In most basic cases where the force is applied perpendicular to the lever arm, \( \theta = 90^\circ \) and \( \sin(\theta) = 1 \), so the equation simplifies to:

\[ \tau = F \cdot r \]

This calculator assumes a perpendicular force unless you specify an angle.
