Low-Pass / High-Pass Filter Cutoff Frequency Calculator

Use this calculator to find the cutoff frequency of RC low-pass and high-pass filters based on resistor and capacitor values.

What this calculator is doing

The cutoff frequency \( f_c \) of an RC low-pass or high-pass filter marks the frequency at which the output signal is attenuated to 70.7% (or -3 dB) of the input.

It is calculated using the following formula:

\[ f_c = \frac{1}{2\pi RC} \]

Where:
\( f_c \) = Cutoff frequency in Hertz (Hz)
\( R \) = Resistance in Ohms (Ω)
\( C \) = Capacitance in Farads (F)

This formula applies to both low-pass and high-pass filters with a single resistor and capacitor.
